Maldives Police Service (MPS) has signed several agreements with top training institutes of India, to enhance its policing and law enforcement capabilities.
The agreements were signed during a four-day visit by a high-level MPs delegation led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan to India from 12-17 January.
The agreements between MPS and Indian training institutes, would provide high-level training in specialised investigations, cyber forensics, and intelligence, and will also facilitate the establishment of a world class forensic laboratory in the island nation.
During the visit, the MPS delegation had met senior officials of the National Police Academy (NPA) in Hyderabad, National Forensic Science University (NFSU) in Gujarat and Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU).
Under the agreements signed with these institutions, the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement (NCPLE) will receive curriculum accreditation, teacher exchange and technical assistance, MPS said.
According to MPS, under these agreements, NFSU has proposed to establish a campus in the Maldives and has agreed to assist in the development of a modern digital forensic laboratory.
The RRU has also agreed to provide scholarship opportunities to five Maldivian police officers, courses taught on both campuses and high-level training on financial crimes and maritime security, it added.
MPS said the agreements mark a significant step towards modernising the standards of police work and enhance its operational and investigative capacity.
