The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development has announced an extension of the deadline for student loan applications until May 2.
Applications must be submitted by 1330hrs on May 2. There are a total of 500 slots available under this student loan programme. The application window for these loans initially opened on February 29 last year and was set to close on May 24.
Regarding the loan scheme, Minister of Higher Education Dr. Maryam Mariya had stated that this loan programme would cater to students at various academic levels, from diploma to PhD. She emphasised that students can pursue their studies in any country of their choosing, with preference given to fields deemed crucial for the Maldives, as outlined in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's manifesto, which includes sectors such as construction, aviation, agriculture, and other vital industries.
The ministry stated that the loan programme extends its support to students with disabilities, covering necessary expenses for their educational pursuits. In addition, students already enrolled in courses will have the opportunity to seek financial assistance for supplementary expenses through this loan programme. Even students pursuing tuition-free degrees can apply for additional financial support within the framework of this scheme.
The ministry has allocated 370 slots for the overall loan program, with 130 specifically designated for students pursuing studies within certain categories.
