Gov't offers grants for postgraduates in natural capital research

The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy has announced an opportunity for postgraduate students both in the Maldives and abroad to apply for financial support to conduct research in areas concerning natural capital accounting.

The ENDhERI Student Grant, part of the Enhancing National Development through Environmentally Resilient Islands (ENDhERI) project, will provide assistance for research endeavors focusing on natural capital valuation and accounting, biodiversity conservation, as well as areas related to corporate sector business and accounting professions.

The environment ministry stated that a maximum of USD6,500 will be awarded to 14 selected students. Interested applicants are urged to submit their completed concept notes and required documents to [email protected] before April 15. In addition, the ministry emphasises that the proposed research field and work must receive approval from the university where the student is enrolled.

The ENDhERI project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It aims to evaluate the natural capital of Maldivian islands, establish sustainable resource management practices, and promote awareness among industries and the general public reliant on these resources. As part of the project, assistance has been extended to nine islands in Laamu Atoll for the first time.
