Senior citizens centres to be built in three regions

The Ministry of Social and Family Development has revealed that social centres for senior citizens will be built in three regions.

Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Minister Aminath Namza said senior citizens play an important role in society and that the establishment of the centres will allow them to live with dignity and the respect they deserve. She also said that providing them with the necessary social assistance will increase their contribution to society.

Additionally, Deputy Minister Namza said that the social centres will be established in the Greater Male' Region, Addu City, and Thaa Atoll. She also said that these centres will be more than a place for senior citizens to socialize but will also provide them with essential services. She added that a plan will be implemented to promote healthy aging, which will include regular medical checkups.

Furthermore, Senior Legal Counselor Aishath Ifadha said that the government will establish the main social centre for senior citizens in Male'. She assured that this would be the beginning and that more information on the services to be made available at the centres will be provided soon.

The previous government had also decided to establish centres for senior citizens and President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has included the development of the centres in his roadmap for the first 100 days in office. He has vowed to not let senior citizens be sidelined from society.
