Maldives discusses commencing direct flights to Xizang Autonomous Region

The Maldives has discussed commencing direct flights to the Xizang Autonomous Region. The discussion was held during a meeting between Chairman of the Xizang Autonomous Region Yan Jinhai and President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu at the President's Office.

During the meeting, President Muizzu and Chairman Yan engaged in discussions on various areas of mutual interest for close cooperation, including the initiation of direct flights between the Maldives and Xizang Autonomous Region, and exploring ways to expand tourism. Cultural similarities and shared challenges, such as climate change, were also discussed.

Additionally, Chairman Yan briefed the President on various aspects of the Xizang Autonomous Region, covering its culture, geography, and unique environment. Recognizing the Maldives' need for clean water, he generously offered to provide 1,500 tonnes of glacial bottled water sourced from the Xizang Autonomous Region. The President graciously accepted the offer.

In conclusion of the meeting, President Muizzu and Chairman Yan underlined the historic friendship between the Maldives and China spanning several decades and wished for further prosperity in the years to come.
