President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he aims to complete the development of Velana International Airport (VIA) by September next year.
At a function held by the Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MNACI), President-elect Muizzu said the completion of the VIA development project would be in the best interest of all sectors. He, however, said that the information gathered by the transitional committees show that the project is expected to be completed in July 2025 under the current schedule.
As such, President-elect Muizzu said that his aim is to work with all stakeholders to expedite the work and complete the project by September. He detailed that he plans to chair daily project status update meetings at the President's Office, adding that he will visit the site soon.
The function was attended by senior members of Progressive Party of the Maldivese (PPM) and the People's National Congress (PNC) as well as many prominent businessmen who shared their challenges with President-elect Muizzu. They also vowed to give their support to the new government's efforts to rebuild the economy.
Additionally, President-elect Muizzu assured that he would focus on the development of the construction industry and supporting businesses. He was also presented with a commemorative plaque on behalf of the MNACI and the National Federation of Maldivian Employers.
