Auditor General’s Office proposes USD8 million budget

The Auditor General’s Office (AGO) has submitted a budget proposal of USD8 million for 2024 to the Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts.

During a meeting with the committee, AGO presented details on the proposed budget, revealing that it is set to be USD2 million higher than the current year's allocation. The committee had previously approved a budget of USD6 million for AGO for 2023. The primary reason behind the increase in budget is attributed to the relocation of the AGO building.

AGO stated that the proposed budget for the upcoming year includes the allocation of USD5.3 million for the recurrent budget, including USD4 million for employee salaries and USD973,000 for administrative services. In addition, USD195,000 has been earmarked for the capital budget, while USD2 million is allocated for the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP). The majority of the PSIP budget is directed towards the construction of a new office building in Hulhumale'. The proposed budget also includes a dependent allowance for AGO employees, with USD674,000 designated for the purpose, aiming to enhance the professionalism and expertise of the office staff.
