President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has vowed to begin a new development journey after completing his administration's initiative to develop infrastructure across the country.
At a campaign event, President Solih highlighted his administration's achievements in establishing essential services for citizens in all parts of the country. He said that a significant number of pledges have been fulfilled since assuming office in 2018 and that his administration is progressing closer to achieving its vision.
Moreover, President Solih said that infrastructure has been developed to establish water and sewerage systems and upgrade power networks across the country, as well as to alleviate challenges in travel. He also noted that numerous projects have commenced to provide affordable housing, adding that his administration has made unprecedented progress in infrastructure development.
Detailing the projects, President Solih said that water and sewerage systems have been established in over 140 islands, and power systems have been upgraded in over 150 islands. He also said that harbour development has been conducted on 125 islands while 1,200 classrooms and 80 multipurpose halls have been built across the country. He added that ambulances have been transferred to 127 islands and reclamation is ongoing in 20 islands.
Additionally, President Solih said that previous governments were hesitant to allocate land plots in Male' City, but that his administration has rectified the practice and will ensure that all plots will be distributed by November 5. He also criticised past housing projects, such as the Gulhi Falhu project, which led to citizens paying for flats without any guarantee of completion. He further noted that his administration had to cover the costs incurred by companies and citizens due to the previous government's incompetence. He added that his administration worked diligently to address the housing crisis with minimal financial impact on citizens.
