The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has extended the suspension of Chief Magistrate of Haa Dhaalu Judicial Constituency Ali Adam.
JSC suspended Chief Magistrate Adam on May 25 over an ongoing investigation and has recently instructed him to remain in suspension until the commission makes a decision on the cases. JSC has completed the investigation on one of the cases and requested the Parliament to dismiss him from his position as a judge on July 23. The case involves Chief Magistrate Adam calling and texting a woman who filed for divorce at the court.
JSC stated that the investigation has shown that Chief Magistrate Adam called and texted the woman while presiding over the divorce proceedings in an attempt to form a relationship with her. The commission also received screenshots of messages sent by the judge, attempting to obtain personal information and requesting that she delete the messages. The judge has also confessed to the allegations. As such, JSC has concluded that Chief Magistrate Adam has abused his authority based on the evidence.
