President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to establish a yacht marina and cruise line services in Kulhudhuffushi City in his second term.
At a campaign event, President Solih said that Kulhudhuffushi will experience major changes during the government's work to develop the northernmost region. He also said that the project to develop 1,000 housing units on the island will begin soon and vowed to reclaim more land and build shore protection structures in his second term. He added that he would build an international recreational centre as well.
Additionally, President Solih pledged to build a commercial port and develop all the roads in Kulhudhuffushi. He also vowed to develop Kumburudhoo into an industrial island with boat building, storage, and packing facilities. He further promised to develop a picnic island for the residents and formulate a plan to develop the local tourism industry with 5,000 tourist beds.
Furthermore, President Solih reiterated that his administration has a comprehensive plan to repay the country's debt by 2026. He also said that the administration has the full confidence of institutions willing to give grants, which will facilitate more loan assistance. He noted that his pledges for the second term are expected to cost USD2 billion and expressed confidence that the economy will double in the coming years, allowing the government to both fulfill its pledges and repay its debt.
