President pledges to develop resort in Makunudhoo lagoon

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to develop a resort in the lagoon in Makunudhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll to increase local tourism after the development of the airport on the island.

At a campaign event in Makunudhoo, President Solih noted that the island is located far away from other islands and has a beautiful lagoon. As such, he said that Makunudhoo has potential for tourism and he will provide opportunities for investors to develop resorts in the area.

Additionally, President Solih revealed that the project to reclaim land for the airport will also include reclamation for two or three islands for resort development. Contractor Bigfish Maldives Private Limited has begun reclaiming 43 hectares to develop the airport in Makunudhoo.

Furthermore, President Solih pledged to develop a racing track in Makunudhoo as well as designate an area for mariculture. He also vowed to reclaim land for the development of flats and develop the roads as well as build a football ground, ice plant, and upgrade the harbour in his second term.
