Independent presidential candidate Hassan Zameel has vowed to greatly reduce the country's debt within two and a half years if he were elected president.
Zameel, who is campaigning on social media, has made a commitment to curtail government expenditure and ensure that the national debt remains at a sustainable level within the next two and a half years. He has emphasised that achieving this goal will require the support of the public, and part of this strategy includes reducing government spending in areas with populations of fewer than 1,000 residents.
Additionally, Zameel reiterated his pledge to raise the minimum wage to USD1,300. His manifesto includes policies he would implement to fix the problems in the country, including increasing the minimum wage and raising the salaries of those working in dangerous environments.
In his manifesto, Zameel said he decided to run in the 2023 presidential election after concluding that a coalition of parties cannot act in the best interest of the country. He has pledged to focus on bringing justice to those who have disappeared or were murdered and to recover embezzled state funds.
Furthermore, Zameel has pledged to eliminate drug trafficking, deport illegal immigrants, and reform the national health insurance scheme. He also pledged to establish means for tourism businesses to make payments through a government system. He further said he would implement a salary structure for stay-at-home parents.
