Independent presidential candidate Umar Naseer has pledged to introduce compulsory military service for boys who finish school.
During the presidential debate, Umar noted the decline in moral standards among the youth and said that the next generation must be built up in order for the country to move towards a new direction. He stressed the importance of building an active, diligent, educated, and skilled young people.
As such, Umar expressed concern over children using their free time to watch TV and play video games and pledged to make it compulsory for boys to serve in the military for one-and-a-half years of time after graduating from school. He highlighted that the national services play an important role in the development of small countries.
Additionally, Umar assured that no one will be imprisoned for political reasons under his administration. He also reiterated his commitment to solving the major in the country such as the drug epidemic and public safety. He added that his administration will uphold Islamic principles.
