President Solih had been touring the atolls as part of his campaign. However, he recently fell ill, halting his travels to islands in Alifu Alifu Atoll. He has since returned to Male'. He notably visited all inhabited islands during his campaign for the 2018 presidential election.
The presidential candidates have been engaged in an intense campaign in which they have been meeting with citizens and providing information about their manifesto. The presidential election, scheduled for September 9, marks a significant milestone as it witnesses the largest number of candidates vying for the presidency since the inception of the multi-party system. Eight candidates are contesting the 2023 presidential election, including five party candidates and three independent candidates.
