Nazim pledges to build junior college in Thimarafushi

Mohamed Nazim, the presidential candidate of the Maldives National Party (MNP), has put forth a compelling promise to enhance education and living conditions in Thimarafushi, Thaa Atoll. Speaking at a campaign event in Thimarafushi, Nazim acknowledged his commitment to fostering higher education opportunities and addressing housing challenges on the island.

Nazim highlighted the pressing need to provide residents with accessible avenues for pursuing higher education without having to relocate to Male', the capital city. Nazim emphasised that, under an MNP administration, significant efforts would be directed toward the expansion of higher education which would involve the establishment of Grade 11 and 12 classes, as well as the creation of a junior college, effectively empowering the island's residents to pursue advanced education without uprooting their lives.

Furthermore, Nazim also outlined his strategy for tackling housing challenges faced by Thimarafushi's residents. He underlined the importance of financial support for housing construction, revealing a plan to facilitate Islamic-compliant loans from banks through the offering of sovereign guarantees.

Furthermore, Nazim proposed a substantial reduction in the rent for government housing units on the island, seeking to alleviate the financial burden on residents, in efforts to address the issue of government housing rent rates from USD 324 to USD 130.
