President pledges to establish separate ministries for youth and sports

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to establish separate ministries for youth and sports.

Speaking at a campaign event in Landhoo, Noonu Atoll, President Solih provided information on the policies included in his manifesto to address youth-related issues. He noted government policies on youth and sports have been lackluster and recognised public concern over one ministry handling both areas.

As such, President Solih pledged to establish separate ministries for youth and sports and implement policies for the ministries to increase opportunities for the youth, establish a youth corps, and build young leaders. He also pledged to provide more resources and funding to empower civil societies. He added that he will introduce council housing for socio-economically vulnerable people and affordable co-living spaces and studio spaces to reduce the burden of paying high rent.

Additionally, President Solih highlighted the projects that would be carried out in Landhoo in his second term, including the development of roads, a housing project, and a futsal ground. He also pledged to develop a modern waste management system, a children's park, a fish market and convert the health centre into a 24hr healthcare provider.
