Faris Maumoon has submitted his candidacy form to contest the presidential election as an independent candidate.
Faris is the President of the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) and received the party ticket after being the sole candidate to participate in the primary election. Currently, MRM is in a legal battle after the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) decided to dissolve the party after failing to fulfill the membership requirement of 3,000 members.
Therefore, Faris decided to contest the presidential election as an independent candidate and gathered the necessary 1,500 signatures to qualify as an independent candidate. He has also appointed Dr. Abdul Sattar Yoosuf as his running mate and former Deputy Minister of Higher Education Ismail Zabeeh as his Election Agent.
