Umar Naseer submits candidacy form

Former Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer has submitted his candidacy form to contest the presidential election.

Umar Naseer is contesting the election as an independent candidate and has appointed former Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ahmed Saleem as his running mate. He was accompanied by his supporters when he arrived at the election headquarters.

Umar Naseer handed over his candidacy form to the President of the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) Fuad Thaufeeq. He had collected 2,000 signatures to qualify as an independent candidate.

Previously, Umar Naseer participated as an independent candidate in the 2008 presidential election and then competed in the 2013 primary election of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). While initially declaring his candidacy for the 2018 presidential election, he later reversed his decision.
