Gov't begins official use of GEMS Workspace

Multiple government agencies have officially commenced the use of the Government E-letter Management System (GEMS) Workspace, a new digital platform introduced by the government in May. This was announced in a recent directive issued by the President's Office.

The GEMS Workspace software is a standalone solution that does not necessitate additional support software. Businesses, non-governmental organisations, and individuals can engage in correspondence with the government, facilitating the exchange of information through the platform.

Several government bodies have adopted the GEMS Workspace. They include the President's Office, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology, the National Center for Information Technology (NCIT), the Secretariat of the Fuvahmulah City Council, the Secretariat of Kudafari Island Council, and Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH). These agencies will utilise the software to correspond with private submissions.

Implementing the GEMS Workspace will be carried out in three phases. The President has also directed government agencies to collaborate with the NCIT in facilitating the implementation of the GEMS Workspace within their respective agencies.

The GEMS Workspace is a crucial platform in the government's endeavour to establish a digital government system, ensuring uninterrupted service provision by offices beyond regular working hours. The GEMS Workspace will also support the government's aspiration to establish itself as a model smart nation.
