Maldives and Egypt sign MoU on diplomatic training

The Maldives and Egypt have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the Field of Diplomatic Training.

The MoU was signed between the Foreign Service Institute under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives and the Institute for Diplomatic Studies under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt. The MoU was signed by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel and Assistant Minister for Asian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Ayman Kamel in the margins of the Second Round of Maldives-Egypt Bilateral Political Consultations.

The MoU aims to foster collaboration and exchange of expertise between the two institutes, and promote the development of diplomatic skills and knowledge. The agreement signifies an important step forward in strengthening and enhancing diplomatic capacity-building efforts between the Maldives and Egypt.

The Second Round of Maldives-Egypt Bilateral Political Consultations was held in the Maldives, where discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations. During the meeting, both countries expressed their mutual interest in deepening engagement in various areas such as economic cooperation, trade, tourism, culture, health, education, climate change, and security.

Additionally, the Maldives and Egypt recognised the upcoming 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and made to celebrate the occasion throughout 2024. The establishment of institutional frameworks, including business councils and parliamentary friendship groups, was discussed to enhance collaboration.

Furthermore, the Maldives and Egypt acknowledged the positive development of their parliamentary friendship group and expressed commitment to continue working together at the international level, including the United Nations (UN) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The importance of freedom of movement in the Indian Ocean, combating terrorism, and promoting Islamic solidarity were also discussed. The Maldives and Egypt concluded by expressing their commitment to build on the high-level bilateral meetings and to hold the third round of Bilateral Political Consultations in Cairo in 2024.
