Minister of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology, Aminath Shauna, has unveiled ongoing efforts to enhance cybersecurity measures in response to the introduction of new digital services. This announcement was made during the launch ceremony of the eTukuri mobile application.

During her speech at the ceremony, Minister Shauna emphasized the significant progress achieved through the government's commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies and implementing user-friendly digital services. She highlighted the introduction of the eFaas application, which enables citizens to securely log in, and the early release of the mobile application for the digital identity system in May. The Minister reported that the mobile application has already been downloaded by 31,000 users, and the oneGov platform has been established to offer a wide range of government services.

Furthermore, Minister Shauna stressed the importance of strengthening cybersecurity measures as more digital services are introduced, with the aim of safeguarding personal information. In pursuit of this goal, the Ministry is currently drafting a cybersecurity bill and has invited public comments on the privacy and personal data protection bill.

Moreover, Minister Shauna highlighted the unique local economies present on each island of the Maldives. She emphasized that the eTukuri mobile application serves as a valuable platform for the country's e-commerce sector, enabling the further development of small and medium businesses in alignment with government policies.

The Minister described the eTukuri platform as a solution to the challenges of transporting products to Male', the capital city, by allowing businesses to directly deliver to customers. She noted that the platform incorporates a tracking system, providing customers with real-time information about the progress of their deliveries. Minister Shauna assured the public that the ongoing efforts to strengthen cybersecurity measures will protect eTukuri users, thereby increasing the confidence of the entire e-commerce sector. She also acknowledged the significant increase in online businesses and services since the COVID-19 pandemic and stressed the importance of nurturing these enterprises in a sustainable manner.
