Adeeb departs to Singapore for medical treatment

Former Vice President Adeeb Abdul Gafoor has departed to Singapore to seek medical treatment.

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) granted permission to Adeeb to travel overseas for medical purposes as he needs to undergo tests unavailable in the Maldives. MCS stated that Adeeb left for Singapore for ten days under the custody of MCS and the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD) stated that Adeeb left for Singapore for treatment of a life-threatening neurological disease based on the recommendations multiple doctors at different hospitals.

Adeeb had been sentenced to 20 years in prison in October 2020, in connection to the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement and money laundering scandal.
