Gov't upholds highest interest of Maldives on Chagos case: MDP

The main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that the government has upheld the highest interests of the Maldives in the decision of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) on the Chagos case.

In a statement, MDP congratulated President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the legal team of the Attorney General's Office (AGO) representing the Maldives on the territorial dispute between Maldives and Mauritius. MDP stated that the government has upheld the highest interests of the Maldives in the decision of ITLOS on the case regarding the delimitation of the maritime boundary between the Maldives and the Chagos Archipelago.

MDP stated that the Maldives has been recognised as a country with full sovereignty and legal authority to manage its economic and security interests. MDP also stated that the opposition attempted to misinform the public about the Chagos Islands dispute with Mauritius in order to make it a political issue.
