Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated that flats will be provided to companies and state authorities in accordance with the relevant policies. He made the remark while responding to questions at the Parliament of the Maldives.
At the sitting, Minister Aslam responded to a question over the claim that the government has decided to provide flats to board members of 34 employees of Urbanco. The minister said that the government chooses applicants under specific policies and criteria and that flats developed under the government’s social housing projects will be given out in accordance with those policies.
As such, Minister Aslam said the employees of Urbanco will be provided flats based on policies either through buildings developed by state-owned companies or by other means. He emphasised that the selection of flat recipients will follow the relevant criteria, with each individual receiving one flat.
Urbanco has refuted the claim that the government plans to hand over flats to its employees, stating that the list being circulated on social media is fake. It stated that the list was published by an anonymous account for the purpose of discrediting the company, adding that all projects in Hulhumale’ are carried out transparently.
