MTCC completes Hanimaadhoo road development project

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the road development project in Hanimaadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

The road development project initially commenced in 2013 and was handed over to different contractors. The project showed little progress and was at a standstill when MTCC was contracted to complete the project in 2019 at a cost of USD1.9 million. Under the project, MTCC developed 20 roads in Hanimaadhoo with asphalt paving and a stormwater drainage system. The project also involved the installation of cable junction boxes and road signage.

MTCC also completed the development of the harbour. Hanimaadhoo is a key island for the economy of the northern atolls and the use of the harbour has increased with the demand for Hanimaadhoo International Airport (HIA). At the same time, the economic activity of the island has increased with the relocation of people from two islands to Hanimaadhoo which now has a population of over 3,000.
