Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has attended the ceremonies held to mark Commonwealth Day in the United Kingdom (UK).
Minister Shahid began Commonwealth Day by joining his counterparts at a wreath-laying ceremony at the Commonwealth Memorial Gates. He then attended the hoisting ceremony of the Commonwealth Flag for Peace at Marlborough House.
Minister Shahid also attended the Commonwealth Day reception hosted by King Charles III and conveyed best wishes from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the people of the Maldives. He was accompanied at the reception by the High Commissioner of the Maldives to the UK Dr. Farahanaz Faisal.
Commonwealth Day 2023 marks the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Commonwealth Charter. This year’s theme is Forging a Sustainable and Peaceful Common Future, which combines the commitment of member states to support the promotion of peace, prosperity, and sustainability, especially through climate action, so as to secure a better future for young people and improve the lives of all Commonwealth citizens. The Commonwealth comprises 56 countries working together for development, democracy, and peace.
