Newly appointed judges to the High Court of the Maldives, the Criminal Court of the Maldives, the Civil Court of the Maldives, and magistrate courts have undertaken their oath. At a ceremony, the judges undertook their oaths in the presence of Chief Guest and Supreme Court Justice Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) appointed the Chief Justice of the Criminal Court Ahmed Shakeel to the High Court. He was first appointed as a judge on March 23, 2003. He holds a Bachelor of Sharia and a Master of Sharia in Law from Villa College. In addition, Ibrahim Ihsan, Ibrahim Zihunee, and Aminath Azlifa were appointed as Judges of the Criminal Court, and Sinan Ali, Faisal Adam, and Abdulla Ihsan were appointed as Judges of the Civil Court. JSC also appointed four Judges to magistrate courts.
Speaking at the ceremony, Supreme Court Justice Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim said that judges should be endowed with the qualities such as gentleness and patience, adding however that these two qualities should not be the downfall of the individual. He also said that judges should be patient and set an example, instead of responding to criticism and ridicule.
