Judge at the Criminal Court of the Maldives Hassan Saeed has been given a 14-day suspension for unlawfully approving a marriage.
Judicial Service Commission (JSC) investigated Judge Saeed over a complaint accusing him of approving a marriage of an employee in a foreign country in 2018 when he was serving as Chief Judge of the Family Court.
JSC stated that Judge Saeed had recommended the marriage registrar to approve the marriage outside of court, which violated the relevant regulations, as the marriage registrar is the only authority on approving marriages. Therefore, JSC has suspended Judge Saeed with pay for 14 days.
