Nihan appointed as Advisor to JP Leader

Former Parliamentarian Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has been appointed as the Advisor to the Jumhooree Party’s (JP) Leader Qasim Ibrahim.

The appointment of Nihan was confirmed by JP. Nihan was also the Leader of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Parliamentary Group during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration. He left PPM and joined JP in 2019.

The leader of the party's advisors can be represented in the party's council, according to the JP Constitution. The appointment comes at a time JP is scheduled to hold its congress on February 24, in which it will make its decision regarding the upcoming presidential election. The party council has approved holding the national assembly from February 23-26. The official segment of the assembly is scheduled to be held from February 24-25. The assembly will also decide on the amendments to the JP Constitution.

Chief Spokesperson of JP Ali Solih said the deadline for submitting amendments to the JP Constitution is open until February 12.
