State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has decided to install a new 800kW generator set in Guraidhoo, Kaafu Atoll, to improve the electricity capacity and improve services.
Branch Manager of STELCO Mohamed Shamaal said efforts are ongoing to improve the services although the electricity situation of the island is adequate. He, however, said the space constraints in the engine room are a challenge in providing services. He, therefore, noted STELCO is working to shift the powerhouse to an uninhabited area, expressing hope the project will commence this year.
President of Guraidhoo Island Council Hussain Yameen Mohamed said the new generator set will improve the service and assist in providing electricity to the newly reclaimed area without interruptions.
The electricity capacity of Guraidhoo is 1,550kW as of now. The new generator set will increase the capacity to 2,350kW.
