Police Research and Innovation Conference to be held in March

Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that the Police Research and Innovation Conference will be held on March 18-21.

At a press conference, Minister Imran Abdulla said that significant changes have been made to the police service in the past 89 years. He highlighted that the separation of the police service to a civil entity in 2004 and the implementation of the Police Service Act in 2021 were major milestones in transforming the Maldives Police Service (MPS) into a disciplined and respected service.

Furthermore, Minister Imran highlighted the importance of addressing the concerns of citizens while reforming MPS and that the conference aims to build MPS into a service that is respected by the public. As such, he said the conference will be a venue in which law enforcement authorities, colleges, universities, and non-governmental organisations can hold discussions and present research papers.

Chairman of the Police Board Ahmed Faseeh said this will be the first edition of the conference and expressed confidence that it will bear positive results in the efforts to hold discussions and conduct research for the development of law enforcement in the country.

A total of 10 research papers will be presented at the conference on the topic of crime prevention, national security and counter-terrorism, financial crime and anti-money laundering, cybercrime, forensic leadership organisation resilience, innovation and technology, transport and maritime security, efficiency and effectiveness, and road safety.
