Jumhuroo Party (JP) has revealed efforts are underway to hold its National Assembly before the end of March 2023.
The National Assembly with the representation of all members must be held before the end of March in the year in which the presidential election is scheduled to be held, according to the JP Constitution, However, the JP Constitution does not prevent the National Assembly from being expedited or postponed if the party council decides.
Secretary General of JP Ali Arif said the party council meeting will be held soon to discuss the National Assembly, adding all administrative preparations for the national assembly have been completed.
JP has the third largest number of members with 17,913 members, as per the political party registry maintained by the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM). JP is also the second-largest party in the ruling government coalition.
