Presidential election to be held on September 9

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has announced that the presidential election will be held on September 9.

Speaking at a press conference, President of ECM Fuad Thaufeeq said a possible second round of the election would be held on September 30. He added that the slogan for the election is My Decision, My Vote.

Additionally, Fuad said that the submission for candidacy will be from July 23 to August 3 and the list of candidates will be published on August 9. He said that candidates will be able to campaign from August 10 to September 8. He also said that the final result will be announced within seven days after the election.

ECM stated that the voters’ list will be published on May 2 and individuals will be able to submit complaints by June 2. They will also be allowed to register at a different voting location from July 16 to August 5. The electoral body will open applications for observers and monitors from July 25 to August 13.
