MPL to reduce export container transfer tariff by 75%

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has decided to reduce the tariff on the transfer of export containers by 75% on January 1, 2023.

MPL currently levies a USD287 tariff on 20ft containers and USD569 on 40ft containers, which will be reduced to USD74 and USD147 respectively after January 1. The company stated that it is implementing the revisions on the export container transfer tariffs to support exporters in the Maldives and support economic growth and trade.

MPL has met with major exporters in the Maldives to discuss their concerns and challenges. During the meeting, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shahid Ali noted that exports have been expressing concern over the high tariff on containers and that the company aims to make it easier for Maldivian exporters to conduct their business. Fish exporters have stated that they are pleased with the change.
