President submits form to contest in MDP primary

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has submitted his form to contest the primary for the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) presidential ticket in the upcoming presidential election.

In a tweet, Campaign Manager Mohamed Nashiz said that President Solih submitted the form with more than 20,000 signatures. His campaign is led by the former Deputy Speaker of the Parliament and former Chairperson of MDP Moosa Manik.

Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has also submitted his candidacy to contest in the primary election. Nasheed, who is the President of MDP, officially announced he would be contesting in the primary election on December 18.

MDP opened the opportunity for members to submit their candidacy for the primary election by December 24. The primary will be held across the country on January 28.
