Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has stated that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih should be re-elected in order to maintain peace and stability in the country. He made the statement at the ceremony held to commence President Solih’s campaign for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) primary election.
At the ceremony, Minister Shahid said President Solih has been able to bring development to the atolls and build a productive young generation during his term. He detailed that 15,000 students are enrolled in the free degree programme and said that funds that had gone to the education sector prior to the current administration were misused.
Minister Shahid severely criticised the previous administration of President Abdulla Yameen. He said that claims that the government is misusing its funds are unfounded and that President Solih uses state funds for the benefit of the citizens. He added that the opposition had used the funds for their own benefit when they had been in power and that corruption was inherent in every one of their projects. He added that President Solih has contributed the most to national development and that he should be re-elected for a second term in order to maintain peace and stability.
