Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent a letter to the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) seeking a decision on the prosecution of Mujuthaba Jaleel, the Secretary General of Male' City Council.
ACC stated that Mujuthaba has been charged with corruption in transactions conducted during his tenure as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA). ACC said it decided to prosecute Mujuthaba for illegally awarding the interior design of the floors of a house rented for NSPA. The investigation revealed that the quotations sent to the Ministry of Finance along with the letter signed by him as the CEO of NSPA seeking permission to award the interior design of the floors of a house rented for NSPA purposes in 2015 were submitted by businesses related to each other. He, therefore, has been charged with abuse of office and official position under the law, according to ACC.
Mujuthaba Jaleel was the CEO of NSPA during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen and later served as the Deputy Minister of Economic Development. He is currently the Secretary General of the Male' City Council.
