The Maldives and Japan have reaffirmed the commitment to further enhance the partnership bilaterally, within the bilateral and multilateral frameworks. The statement was made during a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid by State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Takei Shunsuke.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Shahid welcomed State Minister Takei and highlighted the enduring strength of the Maldives-Japan ties and the close people-to-people contact that form the foundation of the bilateral relationship. They reflected on the close historical relationship between the Maldives and Japan and exchanged views on key areas of bilateral and multilateral interest.
Furthermore, Minister Shahid attended as the Guest of Honour at the Lunch Reception hosted by the Ambassador of Japan Takeuchi Midori to celebrate the official visit of State Minister Takei to commemorate the 55th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Japan.
Speaking at the reception, Minister Shahid extended sincere congratulations on behalf of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the government, and the people of the Maldives to Emperor Naruhito, Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, and the friendly people of Japan on the auspicious occasion of the 55th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
During his remarks, while highlighting the historic and friendly nature of the relationship between the two countries, Minister Shahid emphasised the significant advancements achieved in the bilateral relationship between the Maldives and Japan, noting the instrumental and constructive role played by the government towards the development journey of the Maldives.
In closing, Minister Shahid thanked Minister of Foreign Minister of Japan Hayashi Yoshimasa for his unwavering determination and commitment to strengthening the relations between the two countries and thanked Ambassador Midori for her tireless efforts in elevating the level of cooperation between the Maldives and Japan.
