Maldives to make resorts accessible for tourists with special needs

Minister of Tourism Dr.Abdulla Mausoom has revealed efforts are underway to make Maldivian resorts easy accessible for people with special needs can come and enjoy their holidays.

The 5th IMTM Fair is held in Manhattan Business Hotel in Male' City for two days. The fair was officially inaugurated by Minister Mausoom. The opening ceremony of the fair was also attended by the Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoom and tourism sector stakeholders.

Speaking to the media at the International Maldives Travel Market (IMTM), Minister Maumoon said it was important to make the Maldives a holiday destination for everyone, adding stakeholders and authorities are working together to make the country one of the leading destinations in the field.

Noting people with special needs is a huge market, Minster Mausoom said transportation difficulties among others are some notable issues that need to be solved. He said that some tourist facilities in the Maldives have also arranged for people with special needs to experience the tourism products available in the Maldives. He stated that it is important the resorts are open to all without any discrimination.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Thoyyib Mohamed said the government always puts a priority on marketing the tourism industry.

IMTM provides participants with a unique platform in the Maldives to connect with over 800 delegates and professionals from across the globe, interact actively not only with existing clients but also meet new companies, boost businesses, and close deals with new customers. The main priority of the fair will be put on increasing international markets, IMTM said.

IMTM is conducted with an actively productive and efficient fair concept in mind, such that scheduled meetings between international buyers and trade visitors take place throughout the event, which is the main focus of the fair. The participants are welcome to pre-schedule meetings with parties of their choice and IMTM also steps in to book the remaining slots for parties so that everyone makes the most of their time and engages in business conversations.

IMTM 2022 explores the theme Adapt and Rethink Tourism for Resilience, in line with the hope of reinvigorating the tourism industry as countries all over the world move into the endemic phase and ease COVID-19 restrictions.
