Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has started laying water pipes in the newly populated area of the Fainu, Raa Atoll.
Vice President of Fainu Island Council Mohamed Faisal said the construction of water and sewerage pipes in the newly populated area was delayed due to the delay in removing coconut palms grown near the road. He added the roads have now been cleared and the site has been given to the contractor.
MWSC has revealed that 82% of the water and sewerage works and 54% of the sewerage main pipeline has been completed. MWSC added the main water pipe has now been buried in the residential area.
The government contracted MWSC in November 2020 to establish the water supply and sewerage systems in Fainu. The company is tasked with completing the project by June 2022 at a cost of USD4 million.
The project is expected to provide clean water to 130 households in Fainu with two reverse osmosis (RO) plants, which will generate 20 tonnes of clean water per day. The project will also establish one container capable of preserving 490cbm of water and two containers that can preserve 175cbm of water each. Furthermore, MWSC will be connecting 130 households to the sewerage system.
