MTCC to launch Ungoofaaru land reclamation project next year

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated the second phase of the road development project in Ungoofaaru, Raa Atoll, will be completed by December this year.

Under the second phase of the project, MTCC is carrying out asphalt paving and installation of stormwater drainage systems in additional roads of Ungoofaaru. The project was contracted to be completed within one year for a cost of USD1.4 million. A total of 17 roads on the island will be developed following the completion of the project.

Chief Operating Officer (CEO) Adam Azim said MTCC will carry out four different projects in Ungoofaaru. He detailed that a land reclamation and harbour development will be carried out in addition to the road development project. He added the land reclamation project will be initiated and completed next year following the completion of the road development project this year.

The first phase of the road development project in Ungoofaaru carried out by MTCC included asphalt paving, installation of stormwater drainage systems, speedbreakers, road signs and street lights in 14 roads of the island. The first phase was completed on October 10 last year.
