No agreement signed with Male’ City Council to develop Ameenee Magu: RDC

Road Development Corporation (RDC) has stated there is no agreement signed with Male’ City Council on the development of Ameenee Magu in Male’ City.

The statement was made by Managing Director of RDC Moosa Ali Manik, after the Male’ City Council claimed the project had already been signed with the council before the project was taken over by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure and re-contracted to RDC at a higher price.

Speaking at a press conference, Managing Director Moosa Ali Manik said RDC has not signed any agreements with the city council on developing Ameenee Magu. He noted the project is totally different from the Male’ Streetscaping Project signed with the city council, which involves refurbishing the streets of Male’ in 13 different zones. He said the new project signed with the planning ministry involves redeveloping Ameenee Magu under a whole different scope, which includes dewatering and development of a stormwater drainage system.

The contract for the redevelopment of Ameenee Magu was signed between the planning ministry and RDC on July 3. The project was contracted to RDC at a price of USD5.5 million. The duration given for the project is 7 months.

Ameenee Magu is one of the busiest roads of Male’ City, and one of the few roads that run across the length of the capital. The road is in poor condition, which causes difficulties to vehicles and pedestrians using the road.
