Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated the COVID-19 centre at Dharubaaruge convention centre will be closed from March 24.
The COVID-19 centre at Dharubaaruge was first opened during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic two years ago, and had remained open to provide crucial information and provide health services related to the pandemic. The national task force formed to respond to the pandemic during the lockdown was also headquartered at the convention centre.
Earlier this month, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced the decision to lift the State of Public Health Emergency, in force since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. After consulting with public health experts, President Solih made the announcement in a televised address to the nation, lifting the state of public health emergency declared two years ago.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem has stated the government will target the specific areas of infections to control a new wave of COVID-19 outbreak, instead of declaring a State of Public Health Emergency throughout the country.
