President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has discussed increasing tourist arrivals from distant markets like the US with George Corbin, a tourism and restaurant industry consultant. The discussions were held during a meeting with President Solih and George Corbin at the President's Office.
Discussions at the meeting focused on ways to further strengthen the Maldives tourism sector. During the meeting, President Solih welcomed Corbin to the Maldives and expressed gratitude for his participation in the events held to mark the 50th anniversary of the Maldives tourism industry. The president went on to speak about the administration's commitment to developing the tourism sector and highlighted the recent introduction of homestay tourism in the Maldives.
Corbin praised the development of the tourism sector as well as the construction of new domestic airports and highlighted the importance of attracting more middle-class travellers. They also spoke about strengthening the domestic transportation network and discussed ways to ease travel for tourists from distant markets. Upon conclusion of the meeting, Corbin expressed his gratitude for the hospitality he received in the Maldives.
Corbin is a tourism and restaurant industry consultant who had greatly contributed to the introduction of tourism to the Maldives with his first visit to the country in 1972 as an Italy-based diving tour operator.
