Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) has revealed 10 foreign yachts are participating in the first-ever yacht rally held in the Maldives. The rally is to be held on November 5 as part of the events to mark the 50th anniversary of the tourism industry of the Maldives.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of MITDC Mohamed Raaid said the rally named Sawaadheetha will begin on November 5 from Hoarafushi in Haa Alifu Atoll. He said 10 foreign yachts are taking part in the rally and they have now been docked in Uligamu, Haa Alifu Atoll.

He further noted these include yachts from the US, Australia, Ireland, Thailand, UAE, and India. He said that no liveaboards registered in the Maldives will participate in the rally.

Moreover, Raaid said the participation of foreign vessels was a great achievement considering it is the first such event to be held in the Maldives. Sailing Zatara, a world-renowned celebrity boat, has arrived in the Maldives upon invitation to take part in the rally, according to MITDC.

The state-owned company said the most important purpose of the rally is to showcase the Maldives to the world and to promote the culture, history, and beauty of the country around the world.

The rally will conclude in Thulhaadhoo, Baa Atoll on November 19.
