Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced developing the OPD building in Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.
MTCC has been contracted to complete the project within six months. As part of the project, 24 rooms will be added to the OPD services at the hospital.
The facility is one of the regional hospitals operating in the Maldives which the northern islands widely depend on. The number of people seeking services from the hospital has been increasing significantly over the years. As such, a large number of people from remote islands travel to Kulhudhuffushi every day to seek services amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital said the number of consultation rooms is a challenge, as currently there are 11 rooms in the hospital for patients. The hospital acknowledged the waiting list of the patients has been increasing and it is difficult to issue the required number of appointments.
In addition to consultation rooms, the new building under development will also include a treatment room and a procedure room.
Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital is also set to develop a full-fledged ICU building with a capacity of 36 beds.
