MTCC commences road development project in Hoarafushi

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced the road development project in Hoarafushi, Haa Alifu Atoll.

The project was officially inaugurated during a ceremony held in Hoarafushi on January 16. The ceremony was attended by CEO of MTCC Adam Azim, Parliamentarian for Hoarafushi constituency Ahmed Saleem, members of Hoarafushi Island Council and residents of the island.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, President of Hoarafushi Island Council Mohamed Waheed said the project is of high importance for the people of Hoarafushi, as residents face several difficulties due to the poor condition of roads. He noted the project is being launched with the design changes that were requested by residents.

Under the project, 11 roads of Hoarafushi will be redeveloped, including the 6 largest roads of the island. A total of 5.3km of roads will be developed with asphalt paving, speedbreakers, street lights, signage and a stormwater drainage system. The total value of the project is USD 4.66 million.
