Resort developer fined for non-compliance to EIA

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has fined a resort developer for failing to comply with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report prepared prior to development.

EPA revealed Vashugiri Private Limited was fined for non-compliance to the EIA prepared for the development of a resort in Vashugiri, Vaavu Atoll. EPA said the company has been fined USD 38,400, which is to be paid within 30 days.

Director General of EPA Mohamed Naeem had stated environmental violations were found in the resort upon an inspection carried out by the Ministry of Tourism. However, he did not disclose any details regarding the violations.
