The Zakat Fund spent more than USD 252,857.65 on medical treatment for the underprivileged in May this year.
According to statistics released by the Maldives Zakat House, responsible for administering the Zakat Fund, the Fund provided financial medical assistance to 116 individuals in May this year, utilising USD 90,800.52 for the purpose.
In May, the highest expenditure from the Zakat Fund spending on medical treatment was for cancer treatment, amounting to USD 40,150.94.

In addition to healthcare, the Zakat Fund is also providing assistance in other areas. In May, more than USD 778.38 was spent to fulfill essential needs of the underprivileged and needy, while over USD 175,039.58 was spent on Zakat administration.
In addition, more than USD 660,455.56 was spent under the Fi Sabililah component, on memorising the Qur'an and spreading Quranic knowledge. More than USD 16,285.38 was spent to support various religious programmes.
