Police station to be established in Hulhumale' Phase II

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed a police station will be established in Hulhumale' Phase II by early next year. MPS stated it is currently patrolling Hulhumale' Phase II to reduce crime in the newly populated area.

An uptick in crime has been reported since residents began moving to Hulhumale' Phase II. As such, residents have reported the theft of items used for construction and renovation work, vacant apartments being used for drug use, and arson.

Residents have also reported numerous road accidents, which occurred due to negligence in adhering to regulations and illegal U-turns. Families who have moved to Hulhumale' Phase II have expressed concern over the lack of action from law enforcement.

MPS stated it has begun special operations to stop crime in the area and establish a police station to work more closely with the residents. It stated the police station will be in operation by early next year and will consist of an adequate number of officers stationed in the area. It also stated work has been planned with Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to make Hulhumale' Phase II a peaceful area for residents.

Neighbourhood officers will also be stationed in the area to visit residents and provide information on criminal activity.
